How do antibiotic-resistant strains form?
A
Like all organisms, bacteria sometimes develop random mutations in their DNA, these can lead to change in characteristics eg. being less affected by an antibiotic

Are bacteria quick or slow to evolve?
A
Bacteria are rapid at reproducing and so evolve quite quickly.

Why are antibiotic-resistant strains a problem who become infected?
A
They aren’t immune to the new strain and there is no effective treatment. Meaning the new infection spreads easily between people.

What is a commoner ‘superbug’ that’s hard to get rid of?
A
MRSA - often affects people in hospitals and can be fatal if it enters the bloodstream
