What are measles?
Measles is a serious disease that can cause blindness and brain damage and may be fatal if complications arise.
How are measles spread?
it is spread by the inhalation of droplets from coughs and sneezes and is very infectious.
What is HIV?
It is a virus that attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more vulnerable to other infections and diseases. It remains hidden inside the immune system.
How is HIV spread?
HIV is spread by sexual contact or exchange of body fluids such as blood which occurs when drug users share needles.
What is the tobacco mosaic virus?
a widespread plant pathogen that affects plants including tomatoes and tobacco plants. It causes a distinctive ’mosaic’ pattern on the leaves.This affects the growth of the plant because the affected areas of the leaf do not photosynthesise.
How is the tobacco mosaic virus spread?
it is spread by contact between diseased plant material and healthy plants, and insects can act as vectors. The virus can remain infectious in the soil for about 50 years.
What is Salmonella?
Salmonella are bacteria that live in the guts of many different animals. They can be found in many raw foods. If the bacteria get into our bodies they disrupt the balance of the natural gut bacteria and cause salmonella food poisoning.
How is Salmonella spread?
Salmonella food poisoning is spread by bacteria ingested in food, or on food prepared in unhygienic conditions. Where the bacteria have not been killed by heating.
What is Gonorrhoea?
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease(STD), which are also known as sexually transmitted infections(STIs). It is caused by a bacterium.
How is Gonorrhoea spread?
It is spread by unprotected sexual contact with an infected person. Gonorrhea can also be spread perinatally from mother to baby during childbirth. So it doesn’t have to be only from sexual contact.
What is rose black spot?
It is a fungal disease where purple or black spots develop on leaves, which often turn yellow and drop early.
How is rose black spot spread?
The spores of the fungus are spread in the environment by water or wind. They are then spread over the plant as it rains and then drops from the leaf and onto another one and then affects it and carries on.
What is Malaria?
Malaria is a diseases caused by protist pathogens that are parasites-they live and feed on other living organisms. The life cycle of the protist is in the human body.
How is malaria spread?
The malaria disease is spread by mosquitoes flying in the air and when they land on you and start sucking your blood they release the malaria disease into your body and it can be fatal. They act as vectors of the disease.
