Q

what is the method for the practical that measure the rate of photosynthesis

A

1) place a source of light at a specific distance from the pondweed
2) leave the pondweed to photosynthesise for a set amount of time. as it photosynthesises the oxygen released will collect in the capillary tube
3) use a syringe to draw the gas bubble in the tube up alongside a ruler and the length of the gas bubble is measured this is proportional to the volume of oxygen provided
4) repeat the experiment with the light source at the same distance and find the mean
5) then repeat the whole experiment with the light source at different distances from the pondweed

Q

what does the graph for the rate of photosynthesis and light intensity show

A

As the light intensity increases the rate of photosynthesis also increases
the rate of photosynthesis stops increasing or stays constant. It is being limited by the chlorophyll concentration, carbon dioxide or temperature

16
Q

what is metabolism

A

all chemical reactions in an organism

17
Q

what is oxygen debt

A

the amount of extra oxygen you body needs to react with the build up of lactic acid and remove it from the cells. oxygen reacts with the lactic acid to form harmless co2 and water

18
Q

how do animals use the energy transferred by respiration

A

to build up larger molecules from smaller ones
to contract muscles
to keep body temperature steady

19
Q

what is the process of anaerobic respiration in yeast called

A

fermentation

20
Q

what happens to photosynthesis if the temperature is too high

A

the enzymes denature so the rate of photosynthesis rapidly decreases
