B3d - Cell Division Flashcards
Explain why becoming multicellular requires the development of specialised organ systems, limited to?
- communication between cells
- supplying cells with nutrients
- controlling exchanges with the environment
Explain why, in meiosis, the chromosomes number is halved and each is genetically different, to include what?
- one chromosome from each pair separate to opposite poles of the cell in the first division.
- chromosomes divide and the copies move to opposite poles of the cell in the second division.
Gametes have what?
Gametes have half the number of chromosomes of the body cells (haploid number)
Chromosomes come in..?
Chromosomes come in matching pairs
Whats differentiation??
Different cells do different jobs
What’s meiosis?
Special type of cell division used to make sex cells (gametes)
What’s mitosis?
Repairing damaged cells in the body. Also called copying division. Mitosis makes new cells for growth and repair. Mitosis is asexual reproduction
Examples of mitosis
Bacteria & strawberries
What’s diploid?
Double the amount of chromosomes
What’s haploid?
Half the amount of chromosomes
