Where is cell respiration carried out?
It’s carried out inside the mitochondria.
Why do liver and muscle cells have more mitochondria ?
Because liver and muscle cells need large amounts of energy to carry out their functions.
What are chromosomes?
Long coiled molecules of DNA divided up into regions called genes.
What are ribosomes and where are they found?
They are found in the cytoplasm and are used in the cell when proteins are made.
What makes up your genetic code?
The genes in your body.
What is the order of bases found in DNA called and what do they do?
The base code- each three base code for an amino acid.
Explain protein synthesis
To make proteins the DNA must be copied (transcription)
The copied code is called mRNA
The mRNA leave the nucleus and travels to the ribosomes
At the ribosomes the code is used to put the amino acids together in the right order and form the protein (translation )
Where is DNA found?
It’s found tightly coiled inside the nucleus.
