Ways to prevent disease

Producing antibodies
Producing antitoxins
Body has sophisticated defence system
Skin acts as a barrier to pathogens
Hairs and mucus in your nose trap particles that contain pathogens
Trachea and bronchi secrete mucus to trap pathogens
Stomach produces hydrochloride acid, kills pathogens far from mouth
Pros of vaccination
Helps control communicable diseases
If everyone is vaccinated it is hard for people not vaccinated to get the disease
Cons of vaccinations
Don’t give you immunity
Can have a bad reaction
Vaccines don’t always work
Three main stages in drug testing
In preclinical testing- drugs tested on human cells and tissues
Next step In preclinical testing is to test drug on live animals
If drug passes test on animals it’s then tested on human volunteers in clinical trial
