B3 checklist Flashcards
What is the difference between diffusion and osmosis?
Osmosis is the movement of water from an area of high density to an area of low density across a partially permeable membrane.
Diffusion is the movement of particles from a low density to an area of high density
why should a distance runner have a isotopic drink rather than coke?
A runner should have a isotopic drink because it contains more glucose and will hydrate him faster than coke.
Why does active transport require energy?
Active transport requires energy because it is the movement of particles from a low density to a high destiny. Active transport moves against a concentration gradient and so needs energy to occur
What 2 adaptations does villi have which help the small intestine to work?
- Large surface area
2. Large supply of blood
Identify the main parts of the breathing system & describe how pressure changes occur?
Parts:
1. lungs
2. diaphragm
3 .Intercostal muscles
Pressure changes:
When we breathe in intercostal muscles and diaphragm contract, volume increases and pressure decreases.
when we breathe out intercostal muscles and diaphragm relax, volume decreases and pressure increases
Describe how the leaf is adapted for efficient exchange
Large surface area
