B2a: Cell Organisation Flashcards
What is differentiation?
The process by which cells become specialised for a particullar job
Organ systems are made up of:
Large multicellular organisms
When does differentiation pccur?
During development of multicellular organism.
What are similar cells organised into?
Tissues
What is a tissue?
A group if similar cells that work together to carry out a particular function.
Examples of tissues
Muscular tissue
Glandular tissue
Epithelial tissue
What does a muscular tissue do?
Contracts to move whatever it is its attached to
What do glandular tissue do?
Makes and secretes chemicals like enzymes and hormones
What does epithelial tissue do?
Covers parts of the body eg inside the gut
What are tissues organised into?
Organs
What is an organ?
A group of different tissue
Work together
To perform a certain function
What does the muscular tissue do in the stomach
Moves the stomach wall
To churn food
What does the glandular tissue do in the stomach
Make digestive juices to digest food
What does the epithelial tissue do in the stomach?
Covers outside and inside of the stomach
What are organs organised into
Organ systems
