1
Q
Why is the fossil record incomplete ?
A
In addition, we do not have the remains of every organism that has ever lived, as most decompose before they even have a chance to become fossils.
2

How can new species arise ?
A
New species. New species can arise as a result of isolation. This is where two populations of a species become geographically separated. For example, Charles Darwin described speciation of finches this way.
3
Q
What causes species to become extinct ?
A
If they can’t evolve quickly enough
4

- mummification
- gradual replacement by minerals
- casts and impressions
- preservation
