B2.2 Measuring Distribution Flashcards
What is a habitat?
A place where an organism can be found.
What are the different methods of sampling?
Quadrats and transects
What are quadrats and how do you use them?
A quadrat is a small square that you can randomly drop to sample the different organisms in the square.
What are transects?
A transect is the same as a quadrat except you measure out certain places to stop each time so is more detailed.
What does an organism need to develop in an environment?
Light, oxygen and carbon dioxide, water, nutrients.
What equipment can be used to measure distribution?
Quadrats and Transects.
What is the difference between Quadrats and Transects?
Quadrats measure how common an organism is.
Transects measure the changes in the distribution of organisms.
What is the difference between quadrats and transects?
A quadrat is more random whereas a transect is more structured
