B2 Network Architecture Flashcards
Ethernet protocol
IEEE 802.3 Copper wire, fibre and wireless
Cat 5 speed
100 megabit per sec 100baseT (short for 100 Megabit baseband and T for twisted pair)
Cat 5 e speed
1000baseT (1 Gigabit per sec)
Cat 6 speed
10 Gbit per sec
Fibre modes
multimode - thicker, light can smear restrict distance
single mode, thinner used for long distance
Wireless network IEEE 802.11 freq bands
2.4, 3.6, 5 and 60 Ghz
802.11 speed
1-2Mbps, rarely seen uses 2.4 Ghz
802.11a speed
54Mbps in 5 Ghz (most common in US)
802.11b speed
11Mbps in 2.4 Ghz
802.11g speed
54Mbps 2.4Ghz short range
802.11n speed
builds on 802.11 multiple input multiple output (MIMO) 100Mbps
802.11ac
Bulds on n using 3 antenna to get 1.3Gbps in 5 Ghz.
Network Address Translation, or NAT types
Full cone (1 to 1 or port forwarding) address restricted cone port restricted cone symmetric
Full cone NAT
allows inbound conections from any external host, sending to one device on network, using one approved port. if wrong port used, will fail.
address restricted cone NAT
same as full cone but device within network must have sent packets to an external ip address before it can send packets to it.
