B1.2 Animal And Plant Cells Flashcards
Animal cells features
Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell membrane Mitochondria Ribosomes
Nucleus
Controls all activities of the cell
surrounded by nuclear membrane
Cytoplasm
A liquid gel in which the organelles are suspended and where most of the chemical reactions needed for life take place
Cell membrane
Controls what substances can enter the cell
such as glucose and mineral ions
Mitochondria
Structures in the cytoplasm where aerobic respiration takes place
releasing energy for the cell
Ribosomes
Where protein synthesis takes place
making all the proteins needed in the cell
Plant cell features
Cell membrane Nucleus Chloroplasts Cellulose cell wall Mitochondria Cytoplasm Permanent vacuole Ribosomes
Cell walll
strengthens the cell and gives it support
Made of cellulose
Chloroplasts
organelles found in plant cells and eukaryotic algae that conduct photosynthesis.
Chloroplasts absorb sunlight and use it in conjunction with water and carbon dioxide gas to produce food for the plant.
where are Chloroplasts found
Found in all green parts of the cell.
They are green because they contain the green substance chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll
Absorbs light so the plant can make food by photosynthesis
Permanent vacuole
A space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap
