What is Type 1 Diabetes?

A

If your Pancreas does not make enough insulin, your blood glucose Concentration is not controlled.

What causes Type 1 Diabetes?

A

Without Insulin in your blood, glucose levels get very high after you eat. Eventually your kidneys exert glucose into your urine, you produce lots of urine and feel thirsty all the time, lack of energy = feel tired.

How can Type 1 Diabetes be treated?

A

Replacement insulin before meals, given as an injection into blood, Insulin injections only treat Type 1 diabetes not cure it - have to inject every day of their life

A

Pancreas still makes Insulin but makes less than the body needs
Body Cells stop responding to insulin made

Most Common as you get older- Linked to Obesity/Lack of Exercise
Strong Genetic Tendency to develop Type 2 Diabetes.
