What are herbicides?
Chemicals that kill plants (ex. weed killer)
What are pesticides?
Substances that kill or repel insects.
What is biological control?
A natural predator is used to control a pest.
What are some examples of biological conrtol?
Killing mostquitoes with bats.
What are some drawbacks of herbicides?
-Kills off a consumers food or disrupts the balance of the food web.
-Can reduce soil quality
-Can pollute rivers, streams, and lakes
-Weeds may become resistant to it
What are some drawbacks of pesticides?
-Can kill pollinators
-Insects may become resistant to it
-Small amounts are on our food when we buy it
What are some drawbacks of biological control?
-Doesn’t get rid of all pests
-Changes the balance of the ecosystem
-Takes a while to work
