What produces oestrogen?
ovaries
What does oestrogen do?
controls the development of females secondary sex characteristics
what produces thyroxine?
thyroid gland
What does thyoxine do?
controls rate of metabolic reactions
What does adrenaline do?
flight or fight response which helps organisms stay safe
increases blood flow to muscles and increases blood sugar
What does insulin do?
It makes the liver convert glucose into glycogen. This causes blood glucose levels to decrease.
it also helps the the glucose go from blood to body cells
What does glucagon do?
tells liver to convert glycogen into glucose which increases blood sugar
What does TSH do?
stimulates thyroxine
What does FSH do?
causes the maturation of an egg in the ovary
in which organ is glucose absorbed into blood stream?
small intestine by diffusion
what causes glucose to fall low
exercise
starvation
what do the pancreas do when glucose levels are too low?
creates glucagon
what causes glucose to increase?
eating sugary foods
what causes type 1 diabetes?
when the pancreas does not make insulin so blood sugar cannot be controlled naturally and there can be high levels of glucose in the blood
what causes type 2 diabetes?
receptor cells no longer detect insulin or the pancreas is impaired
