B10 human nervous system Flashcards
What’s homeostasis
Regulation of internal conditions of a cell or organism to maintain optimum conditions to function in response to internal/external changed
What happens if the ph or temp gets to hot for an enzyme
It denatures changing the shape of the active site
What do receptors do In the control system
They detect stimuli this may be part of the nerve or hormonal system
What do coordination centres do in the control system
Receive and process information from receptors sending out signals and coordinate the response e.g. brain spinal cord pancreas
What do effectors do in the control system
They are muscles or glands that bring out responses to stimuli, the response restores conditions in the body to optimum levels
What does the nervous system do
Enables humans to react to their surroundings and to coordinate their behaviour
What is the required practical for measuring reaction time
The ruler drop test which allows you to investigate how quickly nerve impulses travel in your body
What’s a reflex response
A response which doesn’t requires conscious thought and happen automatically
Do Neuron’s directly touch
No there are junctions between them called synapse
How do electric impulses cross a synapse
Diffusion of a chemical across the gap
Describe the process at a synapse
1.Receptor is stimulated
2.impulse in sensory neurone towards CNS
3.crosses to relay neuron over synapse (in CNS)
4. Impulse in relay neuron
5. Crosses to motor neurone away from CNS
6. Impulse reaches effector and stimulates response
