A
  • They are significant changes in a persons life which disrupts their normal routine
    -they lead to psychological adjustments to cope with the event
  • They can be both positive and negative
  • An example may be death or pregnancy

What is adrenaline?

A

It is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands as part of the body’s acute (immediate) stress response (fight or flight)

What are the 3 states of the stress response?

A

Stage 1- alarm reaction which is when the threat is recognised, the hypothalamus in the brain triggers the production of adrenaline for fight or flight
Stage 2- resistance which is when the threat ends the body functions like normal but if the stressor continues the immune system becomes less effective
Stage 3- exhaustion
