B1 microscopy Flashcards
What can microscopes do
Allow us to see things we can’t see with the naked eye
What do light microscopes do
They use the light and lenses to form an image of a Specimen and make them look bigger so that we can see the individual cells and large sub-cellular structures
What do electron microscopes do
They use electrons instead of light to form an image and they have higher resolution and magnification compared to a light microscope
What can electron microscopes do that light microscopes can’t
Let us see smaller things in more detail like the internal structures of mitochondria and chloroplasts or even smaller things like ribosomes and plasmids
How do you calculate the magnification
Magnification = image size/real size
