What is DNA called
Deoxyribonucleic acid
Is DNA a polymer or monomer
A polymer – a long molecule made up of repeating units
What is DNA made up of
It is made up of two strands
The strands are joined together by chemicals called DNA bases
The two strands are twisted together to form a double-helix
shape
Where does DNA go
DNA is coiled into structures called chromosomes in our cells.
What is a DNA strand made up of
Each of the two strands are made up of a series of phosphate and sugar molecules (deoxyribose) joined together
The four different chemical bases for DNA
DNA contains four different chemical bases
Adenin (A)
Thymine (T)
Cytosine (C)
Guanine (G)
Which bases go with which
A-T, C-G
What are single ring bases
Thymine and cytosine.
What are double ring bases
Adenine and guanine
Structure of DNA strand
Phosphate. Sugar. Base
The things in the middle of 2 pairs of DNA
The polynucleotide
What do polynucleotide do
The polynucleotide strands are held together by hydrogen bonding between the bases.
How many hydrogen bonds do the pairs have
G-C 3. T-A 2
What do runugs of DNA have to be
Rungs of DNA must be the same length - Double ring longer than single ring molecules
