B1- Cell Structure And Transport Flashcards
Nucleus
Contains the genetic infomation of the cell (10um, micrometres,in diameter)
Plasmid
Simular to nucleus, it holds the genitic infomation and can be transfered from one bacteria cell to another , they are small rings of DNA.
Cytoplasm
This is where all the chemical reactions take place in a cell
Cell wall
This maintains the cells structure and is made up of cellulose
Mitochondria
This is where respiration takes place within the cell (0.2 - 0.7 um, micrometres, in diametre)
Ribosomes
This is where the cell produces proteins
Membrane
This is controls what comes in and out of the cell
Chloroplast
This made up of chlorphyll and is where photosynthesis take place in a plant cell
Flagella
This allows the movement of certain cells (e.g sperm cell)
Vacuole
This is located in the cytoplasm and stores cell sap
Genetic material
Commonly found in eukaryotic cells and is located in the cytoplasm, it determines the composition of that organism
Slime capsule
A layer surrounding the cell wall which make its harder for the bateria to be engulfed in phagocyte (cells capable of engulfing small cells or bacteria)
Eukaryotes
They have a cell membrane, cytoplasm and genetic material enclosed in a nucleus.
Prokaryotes
They have cytoplasm and a cell membrane surrounded by a cell wall however The genetic material is not enclosed in a nucleus. It is a single DNA loop.
Animal cell
An animal cell is a eukaryotic cell, about 10-30um, micrometres, in length)
