West had growing suspicions
- soviets wanted a unified Germany
-but wanted Germany to be completely disarmed
caused US officials have suspicion of what they wanted to do with Europe

why was the Truman doctrine introduced?
Promised to do whatever necessary to prevent to spread of communism around the world
countries like Greece, Turkey, and Europe were in danger of turning communist so the Truman doctrine was introduced to stop this and send aid to those countries
- basically needed to help these countries or else would turn into communist
Why did the USA adopt a policy of containment?
- They felt that the USSR needed to and must be stopped
- containment would’ve been a more peaceful way to stop communism from spreading without war which is what the US did not want.
Why was Marshall Aid offered to countries in Europe?
Stalin had slowly gained power of Europe in not so okay ways like using violence, political and military tactics
- Stalin wanted them to do poorly so they would convert to communism
- USA saw this and helped them by sending aid
This would make them less likely to convert to communism if USA (capitalist) was helping them and Soviet (communism) was doing them harm

-city of Berlin divided into 4 zones occupied by USA, Britain, soviet, France
- soviet wanted it
-western powers took over so Soviet wouldn’t use it for power
Why did the USSR blockade Berlin and what happened as a result?
- Stalin did not like the new currency that was introduced so as a response he made the blockade
- wanted to remove the western powers from his zone
RESULT - lifter May 1949 - Stalin did not succussed in uniting city under soviet control
- 3 powers remained in his zone
