B Lymphocytes And Humoral Immunity Flashcards
Why is it called humoral immunity?
It involves antibodies and they are soluble in the blood and tissue fluid of the body.
What happens after a pathogen enters a B cell by endocytosis?
It is presented on the surface and the helper cells bind to it stimulating the cloning of B cells (clonal selection). As each clone produces a specific antibody they are called monoclonal antibodies.
What do plasma cells do?
They secrete antibodies usually into the blood plasma.
Responsible for primary immune response.
What are memory cells responsible for?
Secondary immune response. When they encounter an antigen they rapidly dive and develop into plasma and memory cells. They provide long term immunity.
