Turnout gear shall not be worn in, or brought into, the dormitory, bathrooms or living areas of the fire station. Turnout gear is to be left
on the apparatus floor, next to the response vehicle.

To prepare turnout gear for cleaning/inspection, the member shall do the following:
- Remove all items from pockets. Ensure that pockets in turnout pants and in turnout coat are empty.
- Separate the liner from the outer shell of each garment piece. The two pieces may be connected by Velcro or zippers.
- Turn the liners inside-out.
- Leave all fasteners and Velcro closures on the coat and pant outer shells OPEN.
- RETAIN YOUR DRD-this will ensure it is not misplaced during cleaning and allows employees to properly re-install the DRD upon the return of the gear.
- Fold the garments and place in the clear bag (in the case of a contaminated garment, place in a red bio-hazard bag and then place in the clear bag).
- Include your bunker boots, helmet, gloves and hood for annual inspection
Members will complete a form and place it with their turnout gear in the clear bag in the designated area as follows:
1. The form will be in two parts:
a. One copy will be placed in the bag, along with the PPE.
b. The member will retain the other copy.
The scheduled pickup and return of PPE is intended for
annual inspection, testing and cleaning only.
Formal annual inspections, testing and repairs can only be conducted and verified by ____.

In-house routine cleaning should be conducted after each use/exposure as delineated in SOG B-110. This cleaning should consist of the following steps:
- Brush off debris.
- Rinse with water.
- Lightly scrub item with a soft bristle brush, if needed.
- Spot clean, if needed.
- Inspect the item.
- Clean again as necessary.
- Each machine can wash three of four turnout pieces in a single load. The maximum number of pieces is dependent upon the bulkiness and size of the garments.
