What is the purpose of AWS?
A
It is a safety system designed to reduce the risk of SPADs, Overspeeds, Collisions and Derailments. It provides an Audible and Visual warning to the driver which must be acknowledged, it does not relieve any part of the driver’s responsibility to stay vigilant and respond to track information such as signals and speed restrictions but is another layer of protection.
