AWS Flashcards
Task 2025
Perform Terrain Flight
Terrain flight takeoff Standards
a. Evaluate winds, aircraft traffic and obstacles prior to takeoff
b. Select appropriate takeoff technique
c. Maintain takeoff flight path until clear of obstacles
d. Apply power as required to clear obstacles
Terrain flight approach
a. Maintain approach angle to clear obstacles
b. Maintain ground track alignment with select approach path with min drift
c. Maintain appropriate rate of closure
d. Smooth controlled termination at intended approach point
Terrain flight deceleration
a. Maintain alignment w/ desired flight path or NOE trim
b. Maintain obstacle clearance
c. Decelerate to the desired speed or full stop at selected location
Low-level standards
- Maintain altitude +/- 50 ft
- Maintain airspeed +/- 10 KTAS
- Maintain the aircraft in trim
Contour Flight Standards
(1) Maintain an altitude that allows safe clearance of obstacles while generally conforming to the contours of the earth.
(2) Maintain airspeed appropriate for the terrain, enemy situation, weather, and visibility.
(3) Maintain the aircraft in trim.
NOE flight.
(1) OGE power required.
(2) Fly as close to the earth’s surface as obstacles and visibility will permit.
(3) Maintain airspeed appropriate for the terrain, enemy situation, weather, and visibility.
(4) Ensure tail rotor remains clear of all obstacles.

TERRAIN FLIGHT TAKEOFF TECHNIQUES
- Continuous angle–terrain flight takeoff
- Altitude over airspeed–terrain flight takeoff
- Airspeed over altitude terrain flight takeoff
Terrain Flight Techinques
- Low Level (80-200ft AHO)
- Contour (25-80ft AHO)
- NOE (up to 25ft AHO)
Task 2027
Perform Masking and Unmasking
Masking/Unmasking Standards
-Map/Photo Recon
-Mask aircraft from enemy visual and electronic
-Use masking/unmasking technique appropriate for conditions
-Ensure weapons, sensors, and ASE are ready for use prior to unmasking
-Maintain sufficient distance behind obstacles for safe maneuvering
-Reposition before subsequent unmasking if available
