AVPN or MPLS Flashcards
What is a AVPN?
AT&T Virtual Private Network. It is a network that allows you to connect to an office or organizations’ internal LAN or internal infrastructure through the internet.
What are the security features of a VPN?
Tunneling, creates a tunnel through the routers of the AT&T internet backbone. Data is encrypted within the tunnel and delivered to it’s destination(typically an internal network or LAN). A tunnel can reroute itself if it thinks there is a hacking attempt.
Are VPN’s proprietary?
Yes. Access to VPN’s are via proprietary access routers.
What products does AVPN replace?
PNT or Private Network Transport.
What is MPLS?
Multi Protocol Label Switching. This is networking product that provides similar security and feature of the AVPN. MPLS allows for Quality of Service(QOS), meaning transmitted data is labeled with a header and prioritized over data that is less important(voice data is more important than web surfing).
