Rule with “Y”
“Y” means there/that…etc. depending on the context.
Example:
Location: Your house:
Est-ce que vous mangez à ta maison.
You eat at your house.
Oui, j’y mange.
Yes, I eat there.

J’y lis - I read there
J’y travaille - I work there
J’y suis très souvent - Translate
I am there very often.
Do you work there?
Est-ce que vous travaillez à Londres?
AVOID repeating the noun (London)
Oui, j’y travaille.
Yes, I work there.
Je vais en Espagne.
Mais: How are you getting there.
J’y vais en taxi; I am going there by (on) taxi
J’y vais en avion; I’m going there by (on) plane
I am there until 6.
J’y suis jusqu’à six heures;
I been living there for 2 months.
J’y habite depuis deux mois;
J’y suis jusqu’à six heures;
I am there until 6.

How does “Y” work in the work order when working with conjugations such as VAIS, SUIS,
Y mean that/there…etc. Usually this would translate at “there” in English.
In English, this comes after the verb HOWEVER in French this comes before the verb.
J’Y vais - I am going THERE
Tu veux Y aller? - You want to go THERE.
