Q

OAAW three specific areas

A

Preemptive measures - allow air and ground operations to proceed without prohibitive interference

24
Q

Fundamentals of Control of Aircraft and Missiles

A

Integrating Function

25
Methods of Aviation Control
Air Direction Air Control MACCS Elements
26
MACCS Elements
Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron- command post of the ACE comdr Marine Wing Communication Squadron - primary communication organization within the Wing Marine Air Support Squadron - DASC Fixed Wing Marine Unmanned Squadron - VMU Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion - provideclose in, low altitude surface to air weapons fires in defense of the MAGTF Marine Air Control Squadron - primary agency Anti Air Warfare
27
CAS
offensive air support mission that is planned and coordinated to deliver firepower against selected enemy capabilities at a designated place and time
28
Types of Terminal Control
Type 1 - risk assessment required them to visually acquire the attacking aircraft and the target under attack. Type 2 - used when the terminal controller desires control of individual attacks but assesses that either one or a combination of methods are required. Type 3 - does not require the terminal controller to visually acquire the aircraft or the target. The least restrictive form of CAS terminal control.
29
Conditions for effective CAS
``` Effective training and proficiency Planning and Integration Command, Control, Communications Air superiority Target Marking and Acquistion Streamline and Flexible procedures Appropriate Ordance Favorable Weather ```
30
CAS Key Personnel
Aircraft MACCS Ground Personnel
31
Forward Air Controller (FAC)
member of the TACP from a forward ground or airborne position, controls aircraft in close air support of ground troops
32
JTAC
Member who is certified from a forward position that directs the action of combat aircraft engaged in CAS and other OA ops.
33
Terminal controller
has the authority to control the maneuver of and grant weapons release clearance to attacking aircraft
34
FAC
qualified aviation officer who exercises TC of aircraft engaged in CAS or ground troops from an air platform in flight
35
Air Space Control Measures
Control Points FW Contact Points - makes radio contact with the air control agency Initial Points - starting point of the bomb run RW Holding Area-occupied while awaiting targets or missions Battle Position-air space coordination area that contains firing points for attack helicopters
36
CAS Briefing Form
lines 4,6, and restrictions (remarks section) will be ready back by the CAS aircrew ``` IP/BP Heading Distance Target Elevation Target Description Target Location Type Mark Location of Friendlies Egress ```
37
CAS Check in brief terminal controller
``` ID/Mission # Number and Type of Aircraft Position and Altitude Ordnance Time on Station Abort Code ```
38
JTAC will provide a current situation update:
``` Unit Mission Enemy Disposition Threat Activity in target area Weather Friendly Positions Current Fire Support Coordination Measures ```
39
Cleared Hot
granting weapons release clearance to an aircraft attacking a specific target Used during types 1 and 2 control only
40
Cleared to engage
granting a blanket weapons release clearance to an aircraft or multiple aircraft attacking a target or multiple targets. Used during type 3 only.
41
Corrections given in two paths
