Aviation Employment Considerations Flashcards
Describe the 3 types of terminal control used to employ close air support aircraft.
Type 1 - Requires them to visually acquire the attacking aircraft and the target under attack and provides a “clear hot”.
Type 2 - Requires the controller to see the target or the aircraft at time of weapons release, but not both. Controller gives a “cleared hot”.
Type 3 - Used when the terminal controller requires the ability to provide clearance for multiple attacks within a single engagement subject to specific attack restrictions. Controller gives a “clear to engage”.

Describe the conditions required to clear an aircraft to release ordinance.
A positive clearance by the terminal controller (“Cleared Hot” or “Cleared to Engage”) is mandatory before any release of ordnance by the aircrew. The “Cleared Hot” call can be made only after the terminal controller analyzes the attacking aircraft’s geometry to ensure ordnance effects will not affect friendly forces.
