Auxiliary Power Unit Flashcards
Where is the APU located
A. In the tail of the aircraft (NATOPS 2-47)
What type of APU is installed in the P8-A? What are the general specifications?
A. The Honeywell 131-9 (B)
B. It is a self-contained gas turbine engine installed within a fireproof compartment.
Where is the APU powered on, and what’s checklist is used for operation?
A. In the flight deck.
B. NATOPS PCL (A1-P8AAA-NFM-500)
What are the MCDUs? Where are they located?
A. Multifunction Control Display Units
B. Located in the flight deck on the forward aisle stand. (NATOPS 18-10)
What are the steps to find APU specific data? What APU data can be read from the MCDU?
A. Do the APU BITE procedure, and follow the AMM II for IDENT/CONFIG page. (AMM II Task 49-61-00-700-801)
B. The first page shows the APU S/N, Hours of APU Operation, APU Cycles, and hours since installation on the plane. (AMM II Task 49-61-00-700-801)
How do you determine the oil quantity of the APU? What are the oils levels? What do the quantity indications mean?
A. From the MCDU. If it is necessary to e the OIL QUANTITY REPORT page from the main menu, push the line select key adjacent to OIL QUANTITY. (AMM II TASK 49-61-00-700-801)
B. The oil level will show ADD, FULL, LOW, or UNKNOWN.
C. FULL-No servicing required. ADD or LOW condition, notify Maintenance Control to initiate a discrepancy. UNKNOWN-APU is operating (AMMII TASK 49-61-00-790-801
Where is the inlet door for the APU located?
A. Aft starboard side of the tail section. (AMM I Chapter 49)
Where is the eductor located? What is its function?
A. It is located above the APU exhaust.
B. The eductor moves air through the oil cooler to control the oil temperature and takes in ambient air to cool the APU compartment. (AMM I Chapter 49-00-00-002)
Where is the APU exhaust located?
A. Directly below the eductor, in the tail section. (AMM I Chapter 49)
How long may the APU start cycle take?
A. It may take as long as 120 seconds.
What conditions would cause the APU to automatically shut down?
A. Overspeed conditions, low oil pressure, high oil temperature, APU fire, fire control unit failure, EGT exeedance, miscellaneous system faults monitored bye the ECU.
What is the ECU and what are the primary functions.
A. Electronic Control Unit
B. It monitors and controls the APU, providing automatic shutdown protection. Also automatically controls APU speed through the electronic fuel control, either shedding electrical load, or reducing bleed air extraction when speed or EGT exceed acceptable levels. ( NATOPS 2-50)
What are the three requirements for APU operation?
A. APU fire switch on the overheat/fire protection panel must be IN. APU fire control handle on the APU ground control panel must be IN. Battery must be IN.
How man APU fire bottles are there and where are they located?
A. One. Located in the horizontal stabilizer access panel. (AMM I 26-22-00-010)
What are the maintenance messages for the APU and what colors correspond to the maintenance messages?
A. Maintenance Light (blue), Fault Light (amber), and Over-speed Light (amber). (AMM I Chapter 49-00-00-002)
