Autumn 1 Flashcards
Scalar?
is ANY quantity in physics that has MAGNITUDE, but NOT a direction associated with it.
Magnitude
A numerical value with units
Vector
ANY quantity in physics that has BOTH MAGNITUDE and DIRECTION
force
is a push, pull or twist
Equation of speed
speed = distance/time
Magnetism
The force that enables compasses to work
Compression
The force you get when a material is being squashed
Electrostatic
The force you get between two charged objects
Gears
Can multiply the effect of a turning force.
Newton’s Laws (1)
If there are no forces acting on an object which is not moving it will stay at rest.
Newtons law 2
A force applied to an object will change its speed in the same direction as the force.
Newtons law 3
For each force there is another force acting in the opposite direction with the same strength.
