Autonomic Nervous System drugs Flashcards
What does autonomic NS do?
Controls and regulates the heart,GI, Rwspiratory system, bladder, eye and gland
What is agonist?
Agonist drugs that produces a response
What is antagonist?
Drugs that block a response
What pharmacologic effect?
When autonomic drugs are given, the goal is not to treat an autonomic disorder, it is to correct disorders of target organs through autonomic nerves
What is the difference of catecholamines and noncatecholamines?
catecholamines Has catechol ring and amines and the noncatecholamines has no catechol ring
Define adregenic blockes
Direct blocking by occupying receptors
What does orthostatic hypotension do?
An in increase in the HR of 20 beats/minute or more from supine to standing indicates orthostatic hypotension
What is cholinergic agonists?
Mimic the parasympathetic nuerotransmitter acetylcholine
Whay is the difference of selective and non selective?
Selective influences one type of receptor and non selective influences all receptors
What does depolarizing agents do?
Cause sodium channel to open for prolonged depolarization
What does non depolarizing agent do?
Binds to ACh receptors but do not induce ion channel opening
Cholinergic crisis cause?
Caused by overdose of cholinergic agonists
What is Indirect acting irevisable?
Famous for military use as nerve gases
What is nicotinic?
2 receptors affect skeletal muscles
What is muscarinic?
5 receptors, stimulate smooth muscle and slower Hr
