Autonomic Nervous System drugs Flashcards
What are the 2 parts of the nervous system?
Central and Peripheral
It sends impulses the the CNS
Afferent
It receives impulses, transmits through the spinal cord to effector organ cells
Efferent
What are the 2 divisions of efferent?
Autonomic nervous system and Somatic nervous system
Nerves in your body that provides voluntary control of your skeletal muscles
Somatic nervous system
It regulates involuntary physiologic processes in our body
Autonomic nervous system
What is the 3 major functions of ANS?
It regulates your heart rate, secretory gland, and smooth muscles
The ANS is divided into 2 parts, what are they?
Sympathetic and Parasympathetic
A network of nerves that helps your body activate its “fight-or-flight” response.
Sympathetic
A network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger.
Parasympathetic
Chemicals that are produced by your CNS and ANS to communicate with each other
Neurotransmitters
All preganglionic neurotransmitters are?
Acetylcholine
The process by which one neuron communicates with another.
Synaptic transmission
What are the 2 receptors of sympathetic NS
Alpha and Beta
What are the receptors of parasympathetic NS?
Nicotinic and muscarinic
