Autonomic Nervous System Drugs Flashcards
2 components of Nervous System
Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System
These 2 neurons makes up the Peripheral Nervous System.
Afferent/Sensory Neurons and Efferent/Motor Neurons
It is the one that sends impulses to the Central Nervous System (CNS).
Afferent Neurons
It carries impulses away from the CNS to the effector organ to cause movements no actions.
Efferent Neurons
It causes involuntary actions such as controlling and regulating the heart, respiratory system, bladder, eyes, and glands
Autonomic Nervous System/Visceral System
It makes us in control of some actions such as running, talking, singing, and dancing.
Somatic Nervous System
2 divisions of Autonomic Nervous System
Sympathetic/Adrenergic NS and Parasympathetic/Cholinergic NS
It controls fight or flight responses
Sympathetic Nervous System
It regulates rest and digest functions
Parasympathetic NS
What NS is responsible when your pupils dilated?
Sympathetic NS
What NS is responsible when your heart rate decreases?
Parasympathetic NS
What theory states that drugs act through receptors by binding to the receptors to initiate a response or prevent a response?
Receptor Theory
Drugs that produces a response
Agonist
Drugs that blocks a response
Antagonist
Give one therapeutic use of Epinephrine?
Cardiac arrest; asthma
