Automotive - Brakes Flashcards
What two ways can you adjust brake shoes?
Using a star wheel adjuster, or screw adjustment at the wheel cylinder
What is the purpose of the small holes in the piston head?
Allows fluid to pass through the piston head during the recuperating stroke
What is the purpose of the brake booster?
The brake booster assists the driver to apply the brakes, and so reduces the effort needed on the brake pedal.
If free travel was insufficient, what would happen?
If free travel is insufficient, pressure will build up in the system, and cause the brake to be slightly applied
What are the 5 requirements of brake fluid?
Viscosity, boiling point, rubber swell, prevention of corrosion, compatability
What is the purpose of a pressure differential valve and switch?
To alert the driver to a loss of pressure in the brake system.
What fault is likely to cause brake pedal creep?
The double lipped seal on the master cylinder secondary piston, allowing fluid to byass from one circuit to another.
What is the meaning of Ovality?
Ovality or non-circularity is the degree of deviation from perfect circularity of the cross section.
