Autoinflammation Flashcards
A lack of mucin layer leads to a lack of Akkermansia, why?
Because Akkermansia live of eating the mucin layer. If there is no mucin layer they have nothing to feed on.
Having a weak mucin layer can lead to what?
Leaky gut, translocation of bacteria
What can have a positive effect on autoimmunity?
Fruits and vegetables
Omega 3
Vitamin D
Minerals
What can have a negative effect on autoimmunity?
Junk food
Malnourishment
Specific deficits
Can the conditions the animals lived under have an effect on us when we eat the meat?
Yes. Can be pro-inflammatory if the animals were bred under bad conditions
What percentage of diseases are due to diet?
20 %
Can emulsifying agents dissolve the mucin layer?
Yes
Is the food we eat more or less varied today than ancestors?
Less.
“Below a superficial surface of different spices (sushi, thai,
pizza etc) our food becomes more and more homogenous and
is distributed from fewer producers”
““People think they eat a more global and varied diet
than their ancestors but from a microbial perspective
these products become more and more deprived.”
In what 3 ways do microorganisms give health benefits?
Stabilize the intestinal barrier
➢stimulating epithelial growth
➢mucus secretion
➢motility
Enhance innate immunity
➢inhibition of IL-10
➢stimulation of secretory IgA and neutrophils
➢reduction of inflammatory cytokines
Suppresses pathogenic microorganisms
➢e.g., E. coli and Enterobacteriaceae
