Autoimmune + Alcohol Flashcards
Vasculitis is characterized by
inflammation of blood vessels, leading to tissue damage and necrosis.
Vasculitis treatment
Glucocorticoids are the initial therapy.
(prednisone, 1–2 mg/kg/d).
Necrotizing vasculitis when major organ system involvement is present-______________initial drug of choice.
Cyclophosphamide
Vasculitis in SLE or RA treatment
- Prednisone 60-80 mg/d, Cyclophosphamide 1-2mg/kg/d can be added
SLE diagnosis
D- discoid rash (flat w/ pronounced red borders)
O-oral ulcers (painless)
P-photosensitive rash
A-arthralgias/arthritis
M- Malar rash (“facial butterfly” over facial bridge and nose)
I- immunological phenomenon (anti-SM,anti-dsDNA, Anti-RO, Anti-LA, anti-histone)

treatment of SLW
Stop smoking
Frequent labs (CBC, ESR, CRP)
NSAIDs
Hydroxychloroquine
Systemic corticosteroids
Methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, Azathioprine
ETOH Withdrawal- occurs in heavy drinkers due to an imbalance of
GABA and excitatory glutamate causing hyperactive alcohol withdrawal
Identification of risk factors for severe withdrawal -
onset of symptoms upon waking, severe past withdrawals, concomitant substance abuse and medical or psych conditions
Treatment of ETOH Withdrawal
CTH w/o contrast- for focal deficits, seizures, deteriorating LOC, trauma
RUQ US
CXR - for fever to r/o aspiration
Lumbar puncture?
