AutoFlight Flashcards
What type of autopilot system is utilized on 737?
Dual Autopilot system
- Autopilot A
- Autopilot B
Separate hydraulic systems drive each autopilot.
What controls the auto flight system?
It’s controlled by two flight control computers:
- FCC A (direct autopilot A)
- FCC B (directs autopilot B)
From what sources does the Flight control computers (FCC’s) process inputs from?
Mode Control Panel (MCP)
Flight Management Computers (FMCs)
Auto throttle system
Control column/wheel position
Autopilot actuator position
The FCC’s provide commands to what in addition to flight guidance?
Speed trim
Mach trim
Altitude alert
A/P Warning
After the APP light extinguishes (from capturing the approach), the APP mode can only be disengaged by?
- Pushing a TO/GA switch
- disengaging the autopilot and turning off both flight directors.
- Selecting a different frequency in one of the VHF NAV receivers.
How is an autothrottle mode activated?
- Manually electing the desired mode on the MCP
- Allowing the auto flight system to select the proper mode
- Pressing either TO/GA switch
What does the white A/T LIM display above the N1 indications mean?
It displays when the FMC is not providing limits to the autothrottle system or
The system is using degraded N1 thrust limit from the EEC
What are the ways to disengage autopilot?
-Pressing either A/P Disengage switch
-Pushing an illuminated A/P Engage switch
-Pushing down the A/P DISENGAGE Bar
-Activating either pilots control wheel Stabilizer Trim switch
-Moving the STAB TRIM AUTOPILOT cutout switch to CUTOUT
-to/ga w a/p in cws or cmd below 2,000 ft RA
-to/ga w a/p in cws or cmd above 2,000 ft with flaps not up or G/S engaged
When will the autopilot automatically disengage?
Either IRU fails
Hydraulic failure
Electrical failure
Sensor failure
A/P Disengage light illuminates steady red for what conditions?
- ALT ACQ mode inhibited during A/P go-around if not trimmed for single A/P operation.
- When the disengage light test switch is held in position 2, or when the automatic ground system test fails.

Automatic A/T disengagement happens for?
System fault
Thrust lever separation
Thrust and control wheel displacement
The auto flight system provides protection for the following speed limits:
Minimum speed
Vomit/Mmo
Flap placard speeds
Landing gear placard speeds
VOR LOC mode is disengaged by:
Selecting a different roll mode
Changing frequencies on the respective nav radio
NAV signal is lost
Pushing TO/GA for take off roll does what?
- after N1 is stabilized at 40% , advanced thrust levers to takeoff N1 setting
- Flight director commands a wings level attitude and a 10 degrees nose down pitch command
- FMA roll mode shows selected mode or blank if none selected
- TO/GA is displayed in FMA
- passing through 60 knots, the F/D commands 15 degree nose up pitch attitude
- passing through 84 knots, the A/T mode switches to THR HLD
