Q

What is the general limitation regarding the use of the autopilot and/or the FD during an approach in OPEN DES or DES mode?

A

The AP or FD in OPEN DES or DES mode can be used in the approach. However, its use is ONLY permitted if the FCU selected altitude is set to, or above, the higher of the two: MDA/MDH or 500 ft AGL

Q

Is it authoriszed to fly a non-precision
approach in FLS mode?

A

No. FLS guidance mode is PROHIBITED for all non-precision approaches. FINAL APP shall always be selected in the MCDU PERF APPR PAGE when a non-precision approach is inserted in the F-PLN page.

Q

Is it authoriszed to fly a RNAV approach
without GPS PRIMARY?

Q

What are the pre-requisites for using NAV
mode in the terminal area?

A

NAV mode may be used in terminal area provided that:
- GPS PRIMARY is available, or
- The appropriate RNP is checked or entered on the MCDU, and HIGH accuracy is displayed, or
- FMS navigation is crosschecked with navaid raw data

Q

What are the specific limitations applicable to automatic landings in regards to engine out procedures?

A

A321ceo :
During automatic rollout with one Eng. Inop., the remaining thrust reverser can be used provided that:
- Only IDLE reverse thrust is used
- The XW does not exceed 15 kt
A320 Sharklets:
- Only IDLE reverse thrust is used
- XW 15 kt for Auto Rollout
- XW 20 kt without AUTO ROLLOUT
A321neo :
- Only IDLE reverse thrust is used
- XW 10 kt

17
Q

What are the mandatory precautions that
must be taken if performing an automatic
landing in CAT 1 or better weather
conditions (Practice LVP Approach/Autoland)?

A
  1. Practice low visibility approaches and/or autoland are only permitted on runways certified for LVP, with prior ATC coordination and assurance of protection against signal disturbance. (OM-A 8.4.12).
  2. The crew is aware that LOC or GS beam
fluctuations, independent of aircraft systems, may occur and the PF is prepared to immediately disconnect the AP and take appropriate action, should unsatisfactory guidance occur.
  3. At least CAT 2 capability is displayed on the FMA, and CAT 2/CAT 3 procedures are used.
  4. Visual references are obtained at an altitude appropriate to the performed CAT 1 approach, otherwise a go-around is initiated.
18
Q

What is the aircraft approach Category?
(OM-A 8.1)

A

A320: CAT C
A321: CAT D
