(Auto)antibodies in infection and inflammation Flashcards
1
Q
Give 3x cell type recruited as effector cell by monoclonal antibody therapy
A
neutrophils (cetuximab = IgG, cancer)
2
Q
Name the 3 main functions of antibodies in preventing infection. Explain your answer and include structure of different parts of the antibody in your answer.
A
Neutralization:
preventing pathogens from entering or damaging cells by binding to them
Opsonization:
stimulating removal of pathogens by macrophages and other cells by coating the pathogen
Complement activation
and triggering destruction of pathogens by stimulating other immune responses such as the complement pathway
