Local court
Bottom of hierarchy, minor civil cases (under 100k)
District court
Third in hierarchy, appeals from local court, more serious civil cases (100k-750k) and some criminal cases
Supreme court
Highest in a state, most serious crimes such as murder and treason, civil cases over 750k and appeals from the district court
High court
Highest in Australia, deals with appeals from supreme court, deals with the interpretation of the constitution
Children’s courts
Deals with the welfare of children and also trials children in criminal cases, at a district level
Coroner’s courts
Investigates suspicious deaths, operates at a local level
Family court
Deals with divorce and other familial matters, occurs at a state/supreme court level
Drug court
Provides solutions for people with drug-related offenses, occurs at a district level
