Q

What were the different perspectives of people living at that time in regards to federation?

A

Federation was believed by many to help the economic struggle, develop independence from Britain and give equality to all people such as women and aboriginals. However others felt like they would lose power, land and some of the rights they came to know.

Q

How did Australia change between settlement and federation?

A

During 1800s colonies were developing and the inadequate lack of food meant that explorers had to open the interior of Australia. As British people arrived they continued to steal land from the Indigenous people giving them less and less hunting and fishing grounds which caused conflict. Australians became known to have a very egalitarian or free spirit. Only when travelling to or having guests from Britain did Australians realise the changes between culture and attitudes.

Q

How has federation impacted modern day Australia?

A

Made Australia more independent. The Australian defence forces were developed due to federation. Australians had to adapt their way of life to suit the conditions. Things like verandahs, lighter clothing, diets, sports and new words.
