A

Except as in para 11.2 in all ac. for which the Airworthiness specifies min crew of one pilot, a person may occupy a seat at which fully or partially functioning dual controls are fitted if the pilot gives adequate instruction to that person to ensure, not interfered with in flight and satisfactory communication at all times between the pilot and that person.

26
Q

THE BASIC DOCUMENTS 1/2

PPL

A

The Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR)
- basis for all legislation pertaining to aviation Australia with the backing of an act of parliament. Enforceable. Individual CARS - elaborated in CAOs ie. examples of regs to meet regs/laws.
The Civil Aviation Advisory Publication CAAPs give advice ie. what would be ‘sufficient fuel’
most GA operations require their pilots to comply simply with the CAAPs

27
Q

THE BASIC DOCUMENTS 2/2

PPL

A

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION PUBLICATION = AIP
which includes EN-ROUTE SUPPLEMENT or ERSA
use in cockpit and planning plus;
PCA = planning chart (radio and met)
VTC = visual terminal chart (airspace)
ERC = en route chart (planning)

28
Q

CAR 139

DOCUMENTS TO BE CARRIED IN FLIGHT

A

each crew member:

  1. licence
  2. medical
  3. flight manual
  4. maintenance release
    or approved alternative
29
Q

FLIGHT INFORMATION SERVICE (FIS)

AIP GEN 3.3 PARA 2

A

Provides operational information, pre-flight information and in-flight information to aircraft operating in ‘G’.
Frequencies found in ERC and ERSA

30
Q

IN ‘G’ REPORTS AND BROADCASTS

AIP ENR 1.1 PAGE 44

A

Report: communicate with a particular station

Broadcast: communicate with all ac.

31
Q

COMMON TRAFFIC ADVISORY FREQUENCY (CTAF)

AIP ENR 1.4 PARA 3.2

A

Allocated to the airspace in the vicinity of an aerodrome

Must make IB call by 10nm
Lookout ‘see and avoid’ principle

ie. "Innisfail traffic
Piper Pacer MBT
10nm SE
3000ft IB
Innisfail"
32
Q

CONTROL ZONES

ERSA and AIP GEN para 2.2 definition

A

Some control zones, including most class D only function certain times during the day. Outside of this reverts to CTAF. Details in def. in ERSA

33
Q

CANCELLING SARTIME

A

If lodged with a particular Air Traffic Service (ATS) you must cancel outside (CTAF) OR prior to 10nm report point

as they do NOT monitor this OR once landed on AREA FREQ ie. 122.4 monitored

34
Q

AVOIDING CONTROLLED AIRSPACE

AIP ENR 1.1 para 19.12

A

When planned leads close to controlled Boundary, need to be aware may deviate from track therefore coming close. Built in leniencies. If track is inside tolerances MUST request an airways clearance from the ATS OR dog-leg to avoid.

35
Q

AIR DEFENCE IDENTIFICATION ZONE (ADIZ)

AIP ENR pages 1.12-1 to 1.12-9

A

At times, in interest of National Security, certain areas of airspace may be declared an ADIZ.
Military ac. NOT necessarily equipped to communicate with VHF ac. therefore military ‘interceptor ac. are devised to communicate instruction to those stray in zone.

36
Q

MERCY FLIGHT DEFINITION

AIP ENR 1.1 para 66.1 to 66.1.6

A

Mercy rules may be broken to prevent person death or injury under certain circumstances.
ie. operate beyond capabilities…. night, no NVFR rating.

37
Q

HEMISPERICAL LEVELS

A

360* to 179* M track ODD thousands + 500
180* to 359* M track EVEN thousands + 500
Below 5000ft may fly at any level. However, if terrain and cloud permit should comply where possible.
