An abundance of agriculture and fruit which links to fertility. Further links to the children depicted on the frieze as it shows Augustus’ want for an increasing population.
What is depicted on the lower frieze of the Ara Pacis? And what does the pattern represent?
50 different types of plants abstracted together along with some animals, all of which are native to Rome, demonstrating the abundance and fertility of Rome. In addition, the linear pattern represents the order that Augustus brought to Rome.
On the frieze depicting the Imperial family on the Ara Pacis, how can we tell who is more important?
Some figures are in low relief, so set to the back, and others are in high relief, so set to the front.
