Negotiated - understanding the intention of the text but not agreeing with it 100%
Oppositional- disagreeing with the text and its intentions

Mainstreamers - like fitting in with popular products
Aspirers - buy products to make them look good
Succeeders - buy products that will help them be the best at what they do
The resigned - stick to what they know
Explorers - try new products before others. Like to be different
Reformers - buy products that can make a difference to the world
Strugglers - buys products for escapism as they struggle in life
Cultivation Theory
1) the media repeats representations which cultivate audience ideas and may change their opinions
2) cultivations can change dominant hegemonic ideologies of society
