What is the treatment for ADHD?

A

First line: Methylphenidate OR lisdexamfetamine
- Dexamfetamine - intolerant of long effect profile
ALT: atomoxetine (non-stimulant)

What are the side effects of methylphenidate?

A

Insomnia
Tics + tourettes syndrome
- Caution: Hx
DEC appetite = weight loss
- Monitor: appetite
Growth restriction
- Monitor: height + weight
Psychiatric disorders
- Monitor: psychiatric symptoms
CVS
- Monitor: pulse, BP
- CI: CVD, severe HT, hyperthyroidism

What are the interactions of methylphenidate?

A

INC risk of serotonin syndrome (amfetamines) w/ seratonergic drugs (INC 5HT or act on serotonin 5HT receptors)
- Antidepressants
- MAOB inhibitor (segiline)
- Methadone
- Tramadol
