Attention and Memory Flashcards
When does inattention blindness occur?
When we do not have enough attention resources to notice additional stimuli.
What is Treisman’s Feature Integration Theory?
Basic features are process quickly in parallel to bind simple features together. It is slow and serial.
What is spatial attention?
When you are looking for something
What is feature-based attention?
Looking for things according to a specific feature
What is external attention?
How we attend to the world.
What is internal attention?
LT memory: bringing memories into conscious awareness
Working memory: we can hold four pieces of information at once.
Selecting responses
What is Baddeley’s model of working memory?
We can store sensory information in seperate buffers. The central executive combines different buffers to increase awareness.
Phonological loop: stores auditory info briefly
Visuospatial sketchpad:stores visual information briefly.
Episodic buffer: integrates information into new representations.
Describe the two types of cues involved in retrieval of memories?
External cues (context dep.) Internal cues (mood dep.)
What are the three types of amnesia?
Infantile
Reterograde
Anterograde
What are the two types of conscious memory?
Episodic and semantic
What are the three types of unconscious memory?
Procedural, conditioning and priming
