Attack Evolution Practical Flashcards
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a dry supply/blind alley lay.
- Wears full PPE, with mask in standby.
- Takes supply line to drop off point. If dropping off at a hydrant, take hydrant box.
- Secures the supply line to the hydrant or post with the hose strap, or heels the line if not at a hydrant.
- If not at a hydrant, marks the dropoff point with a cone or other device.
- Iff the supply line can be safely anchored, gets back on the apparatus.
- Reports to company officer and commences fire attack as directed.
- Demonstrate good firemanship skill and safety practices throughout evolution.
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a 1 3/4” preconnect interior attack from the tank.
1 Wears full PPE.
2. Follows officer’s direction.
3. Pulls preconnected 1 ¾ attack line to designated attack point for Offensive Attack.
4. Prior to entering building, mask seal and exhaust is checked, air and voice amplifier is on.
5. Offensive Attack Mode-Door is checked prior to entry.
6. Stays low when entering fire room.
7. Neutralize rollover using short burst with straight stream. Do not use continuous fog stream as this will drive steam/heat onto attack team.
8. Makes effective attack on fire.
9. Hydraulically ventilates with 30 degree fog 6-12 ft from
window.
10. Perform Primary Search of fire room
11. Operates nozzle correctly with no quick opening or closing of the bale.
12. Removes hose from fire room and shuts door.
13. Uses good firemanship at all times with no deliberate dropping of equipment or dragging of male couplings.
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a 5” forward, Blitzfire attack.
- Full PPE with mask in standby
- Pull the supply line and hydrant box, wrap the hydrant
with the supply line counter-clockwise.
Signal the driver to “Drive!” - Attaches 5” Supply to the Steamer Port and the 2 ½” gated wye to the hydrant away facing away from the fire. Opens the hydrant when the call for water is received. He follows the hose to the Engine, straightening any
substantial kinks found. - Removes the Blitzfire from the Engine. Folds legs out. Sets on the ground.
- Shoulder loads the 2 ½” Bomb line. Then grabs the Blitzfire with the other hand and goes to the designated deployment area.
- Once the Blitzfire is in place, select the straight tip desired by removing smaller tips (unless it is the 1” tip that is desired). Then remove the 2 ½” gated wye from the 2 ½” Bomb line. Attach the hose directly to
the Blitzfire. - Situate the hose so that there will be no kinks. Try to maintain at least ten feet of straight hose directly behind
the Blitzfire. - Kneeling beside the Blitzfire, call for water. 9. Do not open the Blitzfire bale until the hose is filled. Open the bale and direct the Blitzfire stream as directed.
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a 2 1/2” preconnect solid bore attack from the tank.
- Wears full PPE.
- Follows officer’s direction.
- Pulls preconnected 2 ½” attack line to designated attack point for Defensive Attack.
- Using proper hose handling technique, makes a “quick attack from the outside” into the fire room.
- Directs the stream to hit the ceiling from ½ to 2/3rds of the way into the room.
- Makes Defensive Attack into window of fire room from second angle.
- At officer’s command, shuts the hose down and prepares for the next task
- Uses good firemanship at all times with no deliberate dropping of equipment or dragging of male couplings.
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a manifold reverse.
- Wears full PPE, mask in standby.
- Follows team leader’s commands.
- Assists crew and ensures that all Manifold Reverse default equipment is removed from Apparatus – Supply hose,
Fittings, (2) Spanner Wrenches, FDC key, RIT bag,
(2) spare SCBA bottles, Irons, TIC, Rubbish Hook, Blower, Chain Saw, Manifold, Both 1 ¾” Apt bundles, One 2 ½” Bundle with Nozzle. Equipment to be placed in a safe area and NOT under the tailboard of the engine. - Heels supply line safely.
- Assembles the Manifold.
- Make supply connection to Manifold.
- Connects Apt Bundle or 2 ½” bundle to Manifold.
- Ensures that communication to Engineer occurs – What attack line used and ready to flow water.
- Flow water from the Apt Bundle or 2 ½” bundle .
- Uses good firemanship at all times with no deliberate dropping of equipment or dragging of male couplings.
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a sprinkler/standpipe reverse.
- Wearing full PPE with mask in standby.
- Removes BASIC LAY-OFF PACKAGE plus other equipment as directed by Company Officer. ( RIT, Hose, 2 Spanners, FDC key, Fittings, Irons, 2 SCBA bottles, and a TIC.)
- Removes adequate supply hose to make the connection.
- Conducts equipment inventory.
- Heels the line properly per TFD Drill Manual.
- Makes connection to standpipe/sprinkler.
- If time and safety permits, FF will check and make sure that the Standpipe valves are all closed before water is supplied.
- Reports to Company Officer.
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a round nozzle to the roof.
- Wears full PPE
- With Officer, ladders the building (or roof prop)
- Cache tools at the base of the ladder: 1 ¾” preconnect, Round Nozzle and extension, roof hook, trash hook, chain saw, axe, roof ladder (if needed)
- With Officer, take tools to the roof
- If necessary, go on air
- Officer sounds roof-designates area to insert round nozzle.
- Candidate makes hole with chain saw or axe
- Candidate inserts round nozzle and calls for water
- Candidate opens bale to round nozzle. Flows water for one minute
- After one minute, round nozzle is shut down and Candidate checks for effect. The evolution is then either concluded or the bale re-opened.
- Exit the roof with tools
Describe 3rd position responsibilities for a 5” forward, deck gun attack.
- Wears full PPE
- Follows Officer’s direction
- Removes 5” hose, the hydrant box, correctly wraps the hydrant, and directs the driver to “Drive!”
- Verifies that hydrant is shut off.
- Removes the steamer port cap and the 2 ½” port cap away from the fire.
- Attaches 5” Stortz to hydrant and 2 ½” gated wye.
- Supplies water to the engine when requested.
- Follows hose to the engine and operates the deck gun toward a designated target.
