Deprivation
Loss of an attachment or bond between child and caregiver
Privation
Where no bond or attachment has been formed at all between child and caregiver
Social relationship
The interactions with caregiver and peers from an birth onwards
Monotrophic
A close and important bond formed with a single primary caregiver.
Eg. Child and mother
Asocial (0 to 6 weeks)
Crying and smiling but not aimed towards an individual
Indiscriminate attachment (6weeks to 7months)
Crying not directed to anyone, easily comforted by any individual
Specific attachment (7 to 11months)
Behaviour is more organised and directed towards certain people
Imprinting (Lorenz)
Happens normally between parent and infant.
Securely attached
Easily absorbed with new activity
Prefers mother
Easily pacified but happy to see caregiver return
Detached/avoidant
Does not initiate or resist contact with caregiver
Shows no preference in a person
Resistant/ambivalent
Does not explore surrounding
Wary of strangers
Resists contact with others
Disorganised
Confusion
Dazed behaviour
