What are the four indicators of attachment according to maccoby(1980)
- seeking proximity in order to spend time with each other
- distress when separated
- pleasure when reunited
- general orientation of the primary caregiver (awareness of where the person is)
What is infancy
The period in a child life before speech begins
Give 3 features of infancy
- child born physically helpless e.g cannot feed or fed for themselves
- communication is limited - crying is there form of communication
- struggle for survival for the first few years
Outline the stages of developing communication
1-4 weeks: baby led communication. Crying is used as a signal that the baby wants something from caregiver
1 month: the baby now smilies and begins to respond to parenting behaviour through matching actions
5 month: baby shows clear cycle of attention and non attention.
What is a caregiver
Any person who is providing care for a child e.g parent
What is attachment
A special reciprocal bond between two people which does not deteriorate over time
What is developmental psychology known as and what is it
Known as lifespan psychology
Psychologists are interested in how people develop and change before before they were born and throughout their life
Also how biological and environmental factors affect how we develop
